Dublin Rural LEADER Supports Climate Change Mitigation in Wildlife and Hedge Management in Ballyboughal
Dublin Rural LEADER is delighted to confirm the signing of a new funding contract with Ballyboughal Hedgerow Society for their project, “Climate Change Mitigation in Wildlife and Hedge Management.”
This community-led initiative focuses on practical, on-the-ground actions that support biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable land management in the Ballyboughal area. Through this funding, the group will be able to purchase specialist equipment to improve hedgerow management, care for native tree species, and monitor local wildlife habitats.
Hedgerows play a vital role in climate change mitigation, acting as carbon stores, wildlife corridors, and natural supports for pollinators and biodiversity. Proper management ensures these landscapes continue to deliver environmental benefits while supporting local ecosystems.
The project will also place a strong emphasis on hands-on community training, empowering local volunteers with the skills and knowledge needed to care for hedgerows and wildlife sustainably. This approach strengthens community engagement while ensuring long-term environmental impact.
Dublin Rural LEADER is proud to support Ballyboughal Hedgerow Society and the essential grassroots work they carry out for biodiversity protection and climate action. Projects like this highlight the importance of local leadership in addressing global environmental challenges.
