The role of Care & Repair

The Care and Repair Programme was established by Age Action to carry out minor repairs for older and vulnerable people free of charge, to give them access to reliable tradesmen for larger jobs and to provide a befriending service.

The purpose of Care & Repair

The vision of the programme is to enable older and vulnerable people to remain in their own homes, in their own communities, living as independently as possible, through the improvement of their housing conditions and their level of comfort, security and wellbeing.

The “Care & Repair” programme is an Age Action franchise and it is delivered by Fingal LEADER Partnership. The scheme uses TÚS employment scheme participants to go into people’s homes to undertake small jobs. All our staff have been Garda vetted and have a photographic identification badge, which older people should ask to see before admitting them into their homes.

Some of the jobs we do include:

  • Changing light bulbs
  • Minor decorating
  • Gardening
  • Hanging curtains
  • Installing smoke alarms
  • Minor DIY
